Let’s be honest, sturdy moving boxes aren’t free. So to avoid the expense, you scavenge grocery stores or try and repurpose what you have laying around at home. And while it may be tempting to toss your items into available spaces, like empty suitcases or laundry hampers, taking the time to property pack stuff into sturdy boxes will save you money and aggravation in the long run.
When it comes to figuring out how many and what size boxes you’ll need, use this rule of thumb. You’ll usually require one large box for every 4 medium boxes. Use those larger boxes for lighter items like linens, blankets and comforters. Use smaller boxes for heavier items like dishes, books and décor. And don’t rule out specialty boxes for fragile or awkward-sized items.
Packing right the first time means less disappointment when you unpack later on.
